IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF THE ŠAVRINKE
The cemetery and tales of dusk
“Why did people fear crossroads once darkness fell?”
In the 19th century, the cemetery was moved from the village center to Hrib, near the former chapel of St. Stephen. In local folklore, crossroads were seen as places where one might encounter witches (štrige), vampires (okuldaki), and nightmares (more), which is why holy sites offered a sense of protection. If you are here at dusk, listen closely—the old stories are strongest in the silence.
