MORE THAN TRADE

The Šavrinkas carried more than goods. Travelling between the Istrian hinterland and Trieste, they brought news, shared experiences, encountered new customs and connected people. Their trading routes were places of meeting, conversation and information exchange, which made them an important link between village and city for decades.

Alongside goods, the Šavrinkas brought back from Trieste novelties that could not be bought or seen in Istrian villages. In this way, they became intermediaries between traditional rural life and urban change.
