THE PATHS OF THE ŠAVRINKE
A JOURNEY THAT LASTED FOR DAYS
The journey to Trieste was neither short nor easy. The Šavrinkas crossed rocky paths, forest tracks and mountain passes on foot, carrying goods in jerbas baskets or panniers, often with the help of a donkey. Their circular trading routes were 125 to 150 kilometres long, and the journey took two to three days. The road was not merely a passage from village to city – it was a space of work, trade, encounters and the exchange of news.
