THE PATHS OF THE ŠAVRINKE

“XE ARRIVADA LA SAURINA!”

The arrival of a Šavrinka was an event eagerly anticipated by entire villages. Her arrival meant an opportunity to sell eggs, obtain necessities and exchange news. Children would sometimes wait for her along the road, while housewives prepared what they had been collecting for days to sell. This is why the following cry remained in people’s memory:
“Xe arrivada la Saurina!” – The Šavrinka has arrived! (Interviewee, b. 1941, Paliski)
