The paths of the Šavrinke
Entering the world of the Šavrinke
Welcome to Krkavče – the village of the Šavrinke!
More than a hundred years ago, we, the Šavrinke of Krkavče, set off on long journeys on foot to help support our families through our hard work and earnings. We were traders, washerwomen, travelers, and skillful negotiators. In plenjerji—large baskets carried on our heads—and saddlebags (bisage), we transported eggs, fruit, vegetables, and other home-grown produce, selling or bartering them in towns. We returned home with money, goods, and news. In Krkavče, we were also known as the Šavrinke washerwomen (Šavrinke perice). We brought dirty laundry back from the towns, washed it at home, folded it carefully, and carried it back.
Today, you too can follow in our footsteps. Choose the shorter Educational Trail around Krkavče and its surroundings (approx. 1 hour), or embark on the longer cross-border trail “In the Footsteps of the Šavrinke,” which takes you through the Dragonja Valley all the way to Momjan!
